Baseball for Parents - A guide to better baseball... The idea for my program came about after I realized most youth league coaches simply do not have the time to properly instruct each child. These local coaches mean well and most are very desirous to help your child become a better ballplayer! Although the coaches have great intentions, most simply do not have the time to continuously work with your child!
What you will learn with my program:
  • Why the Golden Rule of hitting - "Keep the back elbow up" is not only completely incorrect, but might be the worst hitting concept taught to young children! Also, why an artifically high-up back elbow leads to a long swing!
  • The best hitting drill to perfect the proper swing. Why it does not have to even be on a baseball field!
  • There are two things a young hitter should check...BEFORE EACH PITCH!
  • Do you want your child to hit the ball more consistently and with more power? Of course. The most important hitting concept, and why not stressing this concept will limit your child's ability to make contact AND improve his productivity. I have NEVER heard any other Dad or youth league coach mention this concept!
  • When playing defense, where your child's hands need to be before the pitch... and it's not on his knees!
  • The best way to move to a ball hit to either side of you. Amazingly, it's the same method for defense in basketball, too!
  • The best ground ball fielding drill....the one drill which will absolutely improve your child's ability to use two hands and get in front of the ball!
  • How to stop a young player from "pushing" the ball and start THROWING the ball. Help your child end that dreaded "throws like a girl" look.
  • What a child should do AFTER he throws the ball!
  • The quickest and easiest way to get young pitchers to keep their throwing elbow up. It's as easy as telling time!
  • Why a young pitcher should NOT "push off the rubber." Why this "dip and drive" method will reduce his control AND velocity!
  • Why the pitcher's landing foot should be "closed" and not pointed straight at the catcher.
  • Proper base running techniques that will allow your child to get to the next base faster, thus creating more base hits and runs scored!
  • My program includes written material stating WHAT to teach your child, and also WHY these correct methods should be taught. It also includes a DVD which I show and explain what exactly to teach. I also show you how to teach. Keep it positive, keep it simple.
When I teach my youth leaguers how to properly field a ground ball, I speak with them and carefully explain how I want them to practice these mechanics. Then I show them how to do it. Once the children begin to understand, I break down all these steps into simple key words and phrases, so when I mention a certain word, the kids know exactly the correct position. This method does not overwhelm the children with too much information.
The best part of the program, though, is the continuous education aspect. Every occupation has continuing education programs, and baseball is no different from accountants, lawyers, police and firemen. It doesn't matter who you are...we all need to keep learning in order to improve. Once again, baseball is no different. We all need to go through updated training sessions to garner new knowledge and training methods or, many times, constant repitition of existing information needs to be performed to stay focused and sharp.
